Clash breaks out over control of Hawkers’ market in Narayanganj

The clash took place at Sainboard Shantidhara Hawkers’ Market between supporters of Osman Gani and Rafiq Islam Sarkar. More than 10 people were injured after being attacked with sharp weapons. Among them, Swapan, Khokon and Shuvo were admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, while others received treatment locally.

According to locals, Rafiq Islam, a former treasurer of the Baitul Mukarram Hawkers’ Welfare Association, had earlier controlled the market and tried to regain control. The supporters of Rafiq and Osman got involved in a clash on Tuesday morning.

Both sides reportedly exchanged blank shots and exploded bombs before leaving the spot. Police later impounded a motorcycle but made no arrests.

Fatullah Model Police Station OC Mahbub Alam confirmed that several people were injured in the clash.
