Railway authorities have formed a three-member committee to investigate the alleged theft of oil from a wagon of the moving Dhaka Mail Six Down train at Harian Railway Station in Rajshahi.

Western Railway General Manager Farid Ahmed confirmed the matter on Wednesday morning.

A video showing oil being allegedly stolen from the train went viral on social media on Tuesday. The footage later came to the attention of the Western Railway control room. A railway wayman, identified as Kiran Ali, was seen in the video.

Kiran reported for duty on Wednesday but was sent back, said Kamrul Islam, a mate at Gang No. 6 of Western Railway’s Harian station. He said the PWI, Md Bakitullah, had instructed Kiran not to work and he subsequently returned home.

Farid Ahmed said he had seen the video and that an investigation committee had been formed.

“Anyone involved, whether from inside or outside the railway, will face legal action,” he said.

He said the alleged theft took place from a moving train and questioned how oil came to be present in the wagon if it was supposed to be empty.

“The investigation will determine where the oil came from and who put it there,” he said.
