Rein in price hikes during Ramadan

Published : Monday, 23 February, 2026 at 12:00 AM
Dear Sir,

Ramadan is the month of mercy, moderation, sacrifice and self-purification. This month brings messages of blessings and welfare in the life of every Muslim. In the hope of getting rid of all sins and attaining Allah's pleasure, Muslims fast from dawn to dusk by eating Sehri and breaking their fast with Iftar. In the month of Ramadan, rich, poor, middle-class or low-class, people of all classes try to live a little better. Everyone wants to eat delicious and healthy food at Sehri and Iftar. But the many destitute people living on the sidewalks of the city and in the villages are unable to procure proper Sehri and Iftar food.

Due to the increase of prices in daily necessities in the market, low income people can't afford to buy the necessary food items. As a result, many of them fast without eating, while some complete the Iftar somehow with only water. Therefore, we should all stand by them with a hand of humanity. Besides, the administration should also take effective steps to control the prices of daily commodities in the market, so that everyone can observe Ramadan with respect.
