Lone suspect 'confesses' to Rayerbazar schoolgirl murder 

The lone suspect in the murder of 14-year-old schoolgirl Shahriar Sharmin Binti in Rayer Bazar has given a confessional statement before a Dhaka court, police said.

Hazaribagh Police Sub-Inspector Md Matiur Rahman, also the investigation officer, produced 19-year-old Siam Hossain Emon before Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Dilruba Afroz Tithi on Friday.

The court recorded his statement and ordered him to jail, confirmed Prosecution SI Abul Bashar. Sharmin was killed around 9pm on Wednesday outside her house. Police arrested Siam on Thursday morning from a residence in Kalabagan and recovered a knife and blood-stained clothes.

According to police, Siam and Sharmin, a ninth-grade student, had been in a relationship since 2023 when they were classmates at Ideal School. Investigators said tensions developed months ago, although they had recently resumed contact.    �"bdnews24
