In a bid to ease passenger pressure and address complaints of seat-hoarding, Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) has introduced additional special train services during Ramadan afternoons on the Uttara-bound route.
The move follows growing criticism from commuters who alleged that some passengers were exploiting loopholes in the system to secure seats before trains departed from Motijheel Station, the southern terminal of the line.
Under the new arrangement, passengers can board newly dispatched trains directly from Motijheel. However, authorities have made it clear that passengers will no longer be allowed to remain in the same train after it reaches the terminal station. Everyone must disembark and move to another platform to board a fresh train for the return journey.
The measure aims to prevent a controversial practice that had become increasingly common in recent months. Previously, some commuters reportedly travelled in the opposite direction by boarding trains from stations such as Secretariat Metro Station or Dhaka University Metro Station, riding to Motijheel to occupy seats in advance. Once the train reached Motijheel, they would remain seated and continue their journey when the train began its return trip toward northern stations.
