The government has announced support measures for expatriates facing visa expirations and flight cancellations, with a dedicated hotline launched to help those in need, Expatriate Welfare Minister Ariful Haque Chowdhury said on Saturday.

Speaking at a Holi festival programme organised by For Manipuri Culture and Arts at Mirjagang in Sylhet city, the minister said a hotline has been launched so that expatriates encountering such problems can contact the ministry and receive assistance according to the government’s capacity.

“The government is committed to resolving the various problems faced by expatriates,” he said.

Referring to the ongoing Middle East conflict, the minister said that as soon as information was received about expatriates who had been killed, the governments of the concerned countries were immediately informed.

He added that the Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare is regularly monitoring the situation, while the Prime Minister is overseeing the matter continuously.

The minister also assured that the government would take effective steps to address the issues faced by the Manipuri community.

Local dignitaries and members of the Manipuri community attended the programme.
