
Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami hosted an iftar gathering with foreign diplomats on Saturday evening.
The event, at the LD Hall of National Parliament complex in the capital, began with a recitation from the Holy Quran and was chaired by Jamaat Ameer and opposition leader Dr Shafiqur Rahman.
Diplomats from a wide range of countries, representatives of international organizations, and distinguished guests attended the gathering.
Among the diplomats present were ambassadors and representatives from the United States, China, Russia, the United Kingdom, Palestine, the European Union, Canada, India, Turkey, France, Germany, Italy, Pakistan, Singapore, Malaysia, Vatican City, Iran, Brunei Darussalam, the Maldives, Algeria, Kosovo, Egypt, Vietnam, Myanmar, Indonesia, Australia, Norway, Nepal, the Philippines, the Netherlands, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, Brazil, Switzerland and South Korea.
Representatives from international agencies including UNDP, UNHCR, UNICEF, UNODC, Democracy International and IOM were also in attendance.
Senior Jamaat leaders present included Nayeb-e-Ameer Professor Mujibur Rahman, Secretary General Mia Golam Parwar, Assistant Secretaries General Maulana ATM Ma’sum, Advocate Muazzam Hossain Helal, Maulana Rafiqul Islam Khan and Advocate Ehsanul Mahbub Zubayer, among others.
In his remarks, Dr Shafiqur Rahman expressed gratitude to the diplomats and international representatives for their presence. He said Bangladesh seeks to build more positive and balanced relations with the global community based on mutual respect, cooperation and constructive engagement.
He voiced hope that ties between Bangladesh and the international community would grow stronger in the days ahead through mutual understanding, justice-based positions and shared humanitarian values.
Highlighting the spiritual significance of Ramadan, he said the holy month teaches restraint, compassion, justice and service to humanity. Embracing these values in personal, social and state life can help establish a peaceful and welfare-oriented society, he added.
The event concluded with a special prayer seeking peace, security and prosperity for Bangladesh, the Muslim Ummah and the wider global community.
