Fire breaks out at multi-storey building in Mirpur, brought under control 

23 rescued, 1 injured

A fire broke out on Monday afternoon in an 11-storey commercial building in Mirpur-2 in the capital. Fire-fighters managed to bring the blaze under control after about one and a half hours of efforts.

According to the Fire Service, 23 people who had been trapped inside the building were rescued and brought down safely. A woman was also rescued and sent to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College and Hospital for treatment.

Talha Bin Jasim, acting officer of the Fire Service and Civil Defence Media Cell, said the fire started at around 1:52 pm on the third floor of the 11-storey commercial building in Mirpur-2. Upon receiving the report, six fire-fighting units rushed to the scene and worked to control the blaze. The fire was brought under control at around 3:22pm.
