The Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC) has increased the daily fuel supply limit for ride-hailing motorcycles to five litres, citing rising demand from motorcyclists in metropolitan areas.
Previously, the daily supply for motorcycles was limited to two litres per day at filling stations. The revised cap comes as more motorcyclists depend on fuel for income-earning activities, particularly in urban centres.
In a press release, issued by BPC, said the decision was taken to ensure a steady supply of fuel nationwide and address public concern over availability.
The BPC said petroleum imports are continuing as scheduled and shipments are arriving regularly. Fuel is being transported from main installations to depots across the country by rail and tanker to maintain distribution.
Under new rules, filling stations must issue a detailed purchase receipt showing the type, quantity, and price of fuel.
Motorcyclists are required to present the original receipt from their previous purchase each time they buy fuel.
Filling stations are also instructed to verify the motorcycle's registration number and the driver's details with the relevant ride-sharing app before dispensing fuel.
The BPC reiterated that fuel must be bought and sold at government fixed prices, warning that traders found charging extra by citing shortages could face punishment.
