Lalmohan BNP holds procession welcoming Major Hafiz as Speaker

LALMOHAN, BHOLA, Mar 13: Leaders and activists of the BNP and its associate organisations brought out a celebratory procession in Lalmohan Upazila of Bhola after Major (Retd) Hafiz Uddin Ahmed, Bir Bikram, MP from Bhola-3 constituency and Minister for Liberation War Affairs, was elected Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad.

The procession was held on Thursday evening under the initiative of the Lalmohan Upazila and municipal units of the BNP along with its affiliated bodies.

The rally began in front of the Uazila BNP office and marched through several streets before concluding at the Chourasta intersection in the town. After the procession, a brief discussion meeting was held there.

A large number of party leaders and activists participated in the programme, expressing their satisfaction and pride over the appointment of the veteran politician as the Speaker of the national parliament.

Among those present were Lalmohan Upazila BNP President Md Jafar Iqbal, General Secretary Md Shafiqul Islam Babul, Municipal BNP President Sadeq Mia Jantu, General Secretary Kamruzzaman Babul Patwari and Upazila Jubo Dal President Shahinul Islam Kabir Hawlader, along with other leaders and activists of the BNP and its affiliated organisations.

Speakers at the gathering congratulated Major (Retd) Hafiz Uddin Ahmed for assuming the prestigious post and expressed hope that his experience and leadership would contribute positively to the functioning of the parliament.

They also described his election as a matter of pride for the people of Bhola, particularly for residents of Lalmohan and Tajumuddin upazilas under the Bhola-3 constituency.

Major (Retd) Hafiz Uddin Ahmed, Bir Bikram, has been elected a member of parliament seven times from the Bhola-3 constituency, which comprises Lalmohan and Tajumuddin upazilas.

Over the course of his political career, he has held several key positions in the BNP-led government. In 1996 he served as the state minister for commerce, while in 2001 he was appointed minister for water resources, commerce and jute.

Local BNP leaders said the celebration reflected the joy and enthusiasm among party supporters in the region following the announcement of his election as Speaker.
