BASIS hosts Iftar to strengthen co-op in ICT sector

The Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS) hosted an Iftar gathering at a hotel in the capital on March 11, 2026, aiming to strengthen collaboration and networking within the country's information and communication technology (ICT) sector.

Ariful Haque Choudhury, MP, Adviser to the Ministry of Labour and Employment and the Ministry of Expatriates' Welfare and Foreign Employment, attended the event as the chief guest. Special guests included Md. Amirul Islam Khan, Member of Parliament from Sirajganj-5, and Md. Monjurul Islam, Member of Parliament from Dinajpur-1.

The programme was chaired by Abul Khair Mohammad Hafizullah Khan, Joint Secretary of the Local Government Division and Administrator of BASIS. Among others present were AHM Rokmunur Zaman Rony, Convener of BASIS Iftar Mahfil 2026; Ferdous Alam, Co-convener; members of the BASIS Associate Committee; representatives of BASIS member companies; leaders from the ICT industry and other stakeholders.

Speaking at the event, Ariful Haque Choudhury said the ICT sector has emerged as an important driver of Bangladesh's economic diversification. He noted that the government would continue supporting organisations like BASIS to promote the sector's growth.

"The ICT industry has already made notable contributions to job creation, export growth and the development of the domestic technology ecosystem," he said, adding that Bangladesh has the potential to become a global hub for software and IT services in the coming years.

He also highlighted the importance of public-private collaboration and the role of the country's young workforce in meeting global demand for skilled professionals.
