The upcoming visit of newly elected President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir to his home district Thakurgaon has been postponed.

He was scheduled to visit the district on a two-day trip on August 30 and 31.

Thakurgaon Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate Mohammad Rafiqul Haque confirmed the matter to media on Wednesday (August 25) afternoon.

The Deputy Commissioner stated that the President was scheduled to visit Thakurgaon on August 30 and 31. The tour was postponed due to unavoidable reasons. However, a new schedule may be finalized within the next one or two days, he added.

Earlier, the district administration began necessary preparations for the President's visit. Relevant departments were directed to prepare administrative arrangements, accommodation, and transportation.

The Protocol Branch of the President's Office sent a letter to the Thakurgaon Deputy Commissioner on Monday (August 24) announcing the visit. The letter stated that President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir would visit Thakurgaon on August 30 and 31 and return to Dhaka on August 31. It also instructed officials to arrange necessary logistics and noted that the detailed schedule would follow.

Local enthusiasm grew surrounding Mirza Fakhrul's first trip to his hometown after taking oath as President. Various government departments along with the district administration started preparations. However, the visit was ultimately postponed due to unavoidable circumstances.
