Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Md Sakhawat Hossain has ordered the formation of an effective committee to strengthen infection prevention and control.
He gave the order on Monday morning while addressing a seminar on infection prevention and control at the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in the capital.
“We must not rely solely on antibiotics to treat infections. Greater emphasis must be placed on infection prevention,” he said.
He further said, “To prevent major diseases and infections, we need to work consistently. Furthermore, awareness about infections must be raised among everyone to ensure prevention.”
Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Dr SM Ziauddin Haider said, “Along with personal hygiene, there is no alternative to improving hospital cleanliness to prevent infections. Private hospitals must also be brought under proper waste management protocols alongside public ones.”
Associate Professor Ling Moi Lin, Director of Infection Control at SingHealth, presented ascientific paper at the seminar, which was chaired by Prof Dr Md Nasir Uddin, Director of the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery.
