An UP member and journalist has received death threats in Jhenaigati upazila of Sherpur district.
Victim Md Jahidul Haque Monir filed a general diary in Jhenaigati Police Station on Sunday.
Monir is a member of Ward No. 1 of Jhenaigati Sadar Union Parishad and is serving as the Jhenaigati upazila correspondent of Daily Amar Somoy and Daily Observer.
According to GD sources, a message of death threat was sent to his number on Sunday morning from 09610973028.
Victim Zahidul Haque Monir said, 'Someone is intentionally trying to intimidate me because I am a public representative and journalist working on various social and public interest issues. I have received such death threats from an unknown number. I and my family have been suffering from insecurity due to this threat and have informed the law enforcement agencies about the matter and filed a GD at the police station.'
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Jhenaigati Police Station Md Amirul Islam stated that the journalist and the UP member have filed a general diary with the police station regarding the threat. Necessary action will be taken after the investigation of the incident.
Meanwhile, the incident has raised concerns in the local community and the locals have demanded that the mystery of the incident be quickly unraveled and those involved be brought to justice.
