Debotakhum, Bandarban’s popular tourism spot has been reopened for tourists under certain conditions.

Following an improvement in the overall situation, tourist access to the spot has been granted starting Tuesday, July 21.

The matter was confirmed through a notice signed by Rowangchhari Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Tazmin Alam Tuli on Monday, July 20.

According to the notice, continuous heavy rainfall in Bandarban hill district recently caused water flow to increase in rivers, streams, and canals. As risks of flooding and landslides emerged in various areas of the district, tourist entry to the Debotakhum tourism center was temporarily suspended from July 16 to July 20 for the safety of tourists.

The conditions stipulate that no tourist-carrying vehicle will be allowed to cross Kachhaptali Bazar. All vehicles must remain or park at Kachhaptali Bazar. Tourists must walk on foot for the approximately 5-kilometer path from Kachhaptali Bazar to Debotakhum.

For river transport, every tourist must wear a life jacket. No tourist will be allowed to travel on water vessels without a life jacket.

Upazila Nirbahi Officer Tazmin Alam Tuli stated that if there is a sudden deterioration in weather, tourist entry may be temporarily suspended or restricted by the administration without prior announcement, depending on necessity.
