Maximum preparations taken for smooth Eid travel, says Tuku

State Minister for Fisheries and Livestock Sultan Salauddin Tuku on Wednesday said the government has taken extensive preparations to ensure a smooth journey for homebound people ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr.
He expressed optimism that, with effective planning and coordinated efforts, there will be no major traffic congestion on highways during the Eid travel period.
The state minister made the remarks while speaking to journalists after inspecting the Dhaka–Tangail–Jamuna Bridge highway at Elenga bus stand area in Tangail.
Tuku said highways are being monitored round the clock to prevent suffering for passengers during the holidays and to ensure that fasting people are not forced to break their fast while stuck on the road.
He added that with holidays start in the garment sector and other industries, around 40 lakh additional people are expected to travel along this route.
According to him, no traffic congestion has been reported so far on the highway, and vehicle movement remains normal.
To maintain smooth traffic flow, law enforcement agencies have been actively deployed, with police stationed at key points. Senior officials are directly overseeing the situation, while party activists are also assisting in managing traffic.
Responding to a query, Tuku said that although mismanagement caused congestion in previous years, this time the situation is largely under control due to advance planning and continuous monitoring.
Among others present during the visit were Rezaul Karim Mallick, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police of Dhaka Range, and Muhammad Shamsul Alam Sarkar, Superintendent of Police of Tangail.
