Independence Day celebrated in Bhola with due honour

The Great Independence and National Day was celebrated with due solemnity and enthusiasm in Bhola’s Lalmohan upazila on Thursday.

The day’s observance commenced at dawn with a 31-gun salute, symbolising respect for the historic significance of the occasion. This was followed by the laying of wreaths at the Shaheed Memorial by the upazila administration, police, and representatives from various sectors in tribute to the martyrs of the Liberation War.

Organised by the upazila administration, the main programme commenced at Lalmohan Government Model Secondary School field at around 9:00 AM. The national flag was hoisted and balloons were released to mark the occasion.

Students from different educational institutions took part in a colourful parade, showcasing discipline and patriotism. A discussion meeting was also held, where freedom fighters and families of martyrs were honoured.

The meeting was presided over by Lalmohan Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Mohammad Sifat Bin Sadeq. Speakers highlighted the spirit and significance of the 1971 Liberation War, urging the younger generation to uphold its values.

Lalmohan Government Shahbazpur College principal Professor Dr Md Shafiqul Islam Molla, Assistant Commissioner (Land) Md Rezwanul Haque, Lalmohan Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Md Oliul Islam, as well as local political leaders, government officials and representatives from various social and cultural organisations were present during the event.
