Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has unveiled plans to launch a nationwide program, ‘Notun Kuri Sports’, aimed at nurturing young athletes and promoting competitive sports at the grassroots level.

Speaking after a friendly football match at National Stadium on Thursday, the Prime Minister said the initiative will expand sports competitions across schools at the district, upazila and union levels.

“We want to develop new talent in various sports and professionalize sports in Bangladesh. For this reason, we have decided to launch ‘Notun Kuri Sports’ alongside the existing ‘Notun Kuri’ program,” he said.

He added, “Our goal is to ensure that Bangladesh produces more skilled athletes who can bring honor to the country in international arenas. This plan also aims to create a sports culture that fosters respect, teamwork and friendship across communities.”

His daughter, Barrister Zaima Rahman, was present at the event. Other attendees included Minister for Forest, Environment and Climate, Abdul Awal Mintu; Minister of Fisheries and Livestock, Sultan Salauddin Tuku; State Minister for Road Transport and Railways, Habibur Rashid Habib; State Minister for Youth and Sports, Aminul Islam and senior officials from the Prime Minister’s Office.
