Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami on Wednesday urged people across the country to take to the streets in support of the 11-party alliance's upcoming programs demanding immediate implementation of referendum verdict and resolution of the worsening fuel crisis.

Jamaat Secretary General and former MP Mia Golam Parwar issued a statement accusing the ruling BNP government of deliberate delays and conspiracies in implementing the referendum outcome, calling it a betrayal of the people's trust.

He demanded that the government immediately convene the Constitution Reform Council to act on the public mandate.

"The national parliamentary election and the referendum to give legal standing to the July Charter were held on February 12. Instead of implementing the referendum verdict, the BNP government is resorting to evasion and conspiracy, which amounts to a form of deception against the people," Parwar said.

He emphasized that the 11-party alliance remains firmly committed to ensuring the implementation of the verdict supported by 70 percent of voters who cast their ballots in favor of the proposed reforms. "The alliance will take an active role on the streets alongside the people of this country," he declared.

The Jamaat leader also blamed government mismanagement and party-linked syndicates for pushing the country's fuel crisis to severe levels, saying the administration cannot escape responsibility for the resulting public suffering due to its failure to take effective measures.

The 11-party alliance has announced a series of escalating programs beginning this week. A nationwide public outreach campaign and leaflet distribution drive is set to begin on April 9 and continue for a week. Protest rallies will be held in all metropolitan cities on April 11, followed by demonstrations in every district on April 12. The alliance will also organize a national seminar at the Diploma Engineers Institution's Muktijoddha Hall in Dhaka on April 13.

Parwar called on party workers at all levels and citizens across the country to participate actively in the announced programs to press the government on citizens' rights, constitutional reform, and relief from the fuel crisis that has disrupted daily life nationwide.
