A brick kiln labourer has been tied up and beaten in Kamalnagar upazila of Laxmipur district.

The incident took place on Thursday afternoon in the Maulvirhat area under Torabganj Union. The video of the incident later went viral on social media.

In the six minute video, victim Kaluu is seen with both hands tied to a shop beam while being repeatedly beaten with a stick and verbally abused.

Locals said Kaluu had earlier agreed to work at a brick kiln in Chittagong for Tk 80,000 and had received an advance payment through labour recruiter Ismail Hossain.

However, after falling ill, he returned home and later stayed at his in-laws’ house.

During the incident, Ismail allegedly brought him from there and took him to his office, where he was tied up, beaten, and pressured to make commitments related to work. He was later released after signing a written undertaking while unwell.

The victim said he was abducted and beaten.

Police confirmed he has been rescued and efforts are underway to arrest the accused.
