As part of efforts to address the ongoing global energy crisis, several educational institutions in the capital have launched pilot online classes.

The initiative began on Sunday at Viqarunnisa Noon School and College, where virtual lessons commenced at 9AM.

Teachers conducted classes from their respective classrooms on campus, delivering lectures online while students joined remotely from their homes. The authorities said that this trial phase currently applies to the college section due to ongoing holidays, with plans to gradually extend the program to the school section.

According to teachers, a hybrid schedule has been introduced, with online classes set for three days-- Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday-- while in-person sessions will take place on Saturday, Monday and Wednesday.

The Ministry of Education has been considering such measures to reduce energy consumption in metropolitan areas. A meeting, in this regard, with stakeholders was held on April 8 to gather opinions and finalize plans for implementing online education in schools and colleges nationwide.

Officials say the pilot program will be closely monitored before broader implementation.
