All closed textile, jute mills to be reopened gradually: Shariful Alam

NILPHAMARI, Apr 13: "All closed textile and jute mills will be reopened gradually," said Mohammad Shariful Alam, State Minister for the Ministry of Textiles and Jute. 
He further stated, "We are inspecting closed mills across Bangladesh, especially the textile and jute mills under the Ministry of Textiles and Jute. We have initiated the process of reopening these industries by gradually bringing in both local and foreign investors."
He made these remarks while responding to questions from journalists after inspecting the closed Darwani Textile Mill in Nilphamari on Sunday morning.

Although the mill is currently closed, our election manifesto included the respected Prime Minister's electoral commitment to reopen all closed establishments across Bangladesh, particularly textile and jute mills. We have started working towards that goal."
Noting that Darwani Textile Mill will become operational again within the next two to three months, he said, "The good news is that we have already called for international tenders regarding this mill. The evaluation process is ongoing. We have also found a good investor. I am hopeful that the mill will become active again soon, especially within two to three months. It will reopen and create employment opportunities for the people of this area."
Shariful Alam said, "We aim to reopen the closed industrial sites, create employment, and increase investment. The more investment we can attract, the more employment will be generated for the people. Our economy, especially at the district level, will once again inspire hope among the marginalized communities. We have made this commitment, we have promised this."
Referring to the stagnation of the country's economic activities over the past 17 years, the State Minister said, "You are all aware of the context of the past period. There has been much duplicity and many irregularities that we have observed. We do not want to go backward. We want to move forward. To that end, the main goal of our government is to increase investment, create employment, and restore economic vitality."
He also mentioned that various programs have been undertaken to revive the era of the golden fibre, saying, "The golden fibre was our heritage. Today, it has significantly declined and is disappearing. To restore it, we have adopted various programs. 
Due to water scarcity for retting jute, canal excavation programs have been reintroduced across the country to ensure water flow in front of and behind every household, so that natural water can be used for jute retting. We need to provide technical assistance to jute farmers and conduct research to increase yields from seeds. We are working towards this goal."
After inspecting the textile mill, the State Minister visited the Classical Handmade Product BD factory in Gorgram Union of Sadar Upazila. On the occasion, Advocate Alfaruk Abdul Latif, Member of Parliament (MP) for Nilphamari-2 (Sadar) constituency; Bilkis Jahan Rimi, Secretary of the Ministry of Textiles and Jute; Additional District Magistrate (Revenue) Md. Saidul Islam; Additional Superintendent of Police A.B.M. Faizul Islam, and many others were present.
