Former Bangladesh fast bowler Rubel Hossain has announced his retirement from international cricket on Wednesday, bringing an end to a career that spanned more than a decade at the highest level across all three formats for the national side.
Rubel confirmed his decision through a social media post today, stating that he has decided to step away from international cricket after long reflection on his career.
"I am pacer Rubel Hossain. I have played 27 Tests, 104 ODIs and 28 T20Is in the Bangladesh jersey. The national team is my passion. But at some point I had to bid farewell to international cricket. Thinking about that, I've announced my retirement from international cricket," Rubel wrote.
He also expressed gratitude to those who supported him throughout his career, adding, "Thank you to my family, friends, media personnel and fans. I believe that you will keep me by your side for the rest of my life. Much love to everyone."
Rubel last played for Bangladesh in April 2021 and had not been in the national setup since then. Despite retiring from international cricket, he indicated that he intends to continue playing domestic cricket.
Across formats, Rubel featured in 27 Tests, 104 ODIs and 28 T20Is for Bangladesh, taking a combined 193 international wickets. He took 36 Test wickets, 129 ODI wickets and 28 T20I wickets during his international career. His best bowling figures in ODIs were 6-26. "BSS
