Class XI admission to be based on SSC results again

Admission to class XI for the current academic session will once again be held based on SSC and equivalent examination results.

Same as the previous years, admissions will be conducted centrally online. Students will be able select institutes based on their total marks obtained in the SSC exams. Inter-Education Board Coordination Committee has sent a draft proposal regarding this policy to the Secondary and higher Education Division of the Ministry of Education. 

Professor Syed Akhtaruzzaman, Chairman of the Dhaka Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board and President of the Inter-Education Board Coordination Committee, confirmed the information on Monday (August 3). 

He said, there would be no major changes in the Class XI admission process this year. The draft policy of the admission rules based on GPA or total marks have already been forwarded to the ministry. 

Meanwhile, SSC and equivalent exam results are scheduled to be published on August 10. Although results were initially scheduled for release on July 20, the date was postponed due to the boards could not complete their preparations on time. 

There are over 2.6 million available seats in colleges and madrasas across the country for Class XI. Meanwhile, more than 1.85 million candidates appeared in this year's SSC and equivalent exams. As a result, a large number of seats will remain vacant this year as well.

Although admission to most colleges and madrasas will be based on results, church-run institutions such as Notre Dame College and Holy Cross College will hold their own admission tests following earlier court directives.
