A Krishak Dal activist was killed after a drum truck ran over him at Hathazari upazila of Chittagong on Saturday.
The incident occurred around 7:30 PM in the Sarkarhat Bazar area of Mirzapur unionof the upazila.
The deceased was identified as Kamrul Hasan Faisal, 35, son of the late Abdul Malek Babul. He was a former member of ward 3 of Mirzapur union and was an active worker for the Upazila Krishak Dal.
According to local sources, Faisal was critically injured after being struck and run over by a drum truck. Bystanders rushed him to the emergency department of Hathazari Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor declared him dead upon arrival.
The victim's family and Lion Anwar Hossain Ujjal, Joint Secretary of Chittagong North District Krishak Dal, have alleged that this was not a simple accident. They claimed that a local youth named Jewel and his associates had been threatening Faisal over a prior enmity for several days.
Jewel might have killed Faisal using the drum truck, they added.
Anwar Hossain Ujjal has demanded to the local Member of Parliament and State Minister, Barrister Mir Mohammad Helal Uddin, fair investigation.
Mostak Ahmed Chowdhury, Inspector (Investigation) of Hathazari Model Police Station, stated that the body has been recovered and sent to the morgue for an autopsy.
He confirmed that police are currently taking legal action and investigating the circumstances surrounding the death.
