
For the first time in the history of Dhaka district, Shamima Parveen has been appointed as a female Superintendent of Police (SP).
The Ministry of Home Affairs, signed by Deputy Secretary Toufique Ahmed of the Police-1 Branch announced her appointment in a notification on Thursday.
The notification states that the order was issued in the public interest and will take immediate effect.
Shamima Parveen is the wife of Khulna-3 MP and Whip Rakibul Islam Bakul.
Earlier, on April 22, Farida Khanam, a deputy secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs, was appointed as the first female deputy commissioner (DC) of Dhaka.
She has also served as the Joint Secretary of the Bangladesh Police Association. She has also worked as a coordinator of women police members from 22 countries at the international level and has served as the Central and South Asian Coordinator of the International Association of Women Police.
During her academic career, she studied at Jahangirnagar University and was also involved in student politics during her student life.
Those concerned hope that the law and order situation in the district will be further strengthened under her leadership by taking charge as the new SP of Dhaka.
