The Opposition Leader in Parliament and Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, left for Japan early Saturday morning for a week-long official visit.

A spokesperson for his party confirmed that Dr Shafiqur departed from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 3:00 AM.

He is accompanied by Saiful Alam Khan Milon, a member of the Jamaat Central Executive Council and Member of Parliament for the Dhaka-12 constituency, and Barrister Mir Ahmad Bin Quasem Arman, the opposition leader’s foreign affairs adviser and Member of Parliament for Dhaka-14.

During the seven-day tour, the opposition leader is scheduled to hold several courtesy meetings and exchange views with high-ranking Japanese officials and other influential figures.
While the specific agenda has not been disclosed, sources close to the party suggested that discussions will likely cover a wide range of issues related to mutual interests between the two nations.

This marks one of the most significant foreign trips for Dr. Shafiqur Rahman since assuming the role of Leader of the Opposition following the recent general elections.

He is expected to return to Dhaka on May 9.
