BGB deployed as flood hits 11 districts

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has been deployed in 11 districts to carry out rescue missions, provide medical assistance and distribute relief goods among the flood affected people.

There has been continuous heavy rainfall over the past few days. Thus the deployment was issued in major flood affected districts - Cox's Bazar, Bandarban, Rangamati, Khagrachhari, Chittagong, Feni, Sylhet, Habiganj, Sunamganj, Netrokona, and Jamalpur.

The BGB headquarters disclosed this information in a press release on Sunday (July 12).

According to the release, BGB has been deployed in these districts to rescue people affected by continuous heavy rainfall, hill run-offs, floods, and landslides. They will also arrange safe shelters, distribute relief materials, provide emergency medical aid, restore damaged communication networks, and protect vulnerable infrastructure.

The flood situation is being monitored at 90 points across those 11 districts to tackle the disaster. Humanitarian assistance and rescue operations are conducted wherever necessary.

BGB has already rescued more than 600 people in the ongoing flood situation. Various flood-affected zones in Bandarban were evacuated with their help. Food items were distributed among them and emergency medical treatment was provided to 48 people.

Additionally, they played an effective role in removing fallen trees and debris to restore communication on the Bandarban-Rowangchhari road.

BGB is also working tirelessly in Naikhongchhari to take emergency preventive measures to protect a steel bridge made vulnerable by soil erosion, ensuring safe movement for the public.
