A Dhaka court has set June 10 to deliver its judgement in a case against former cricketer Nasir Hossain and his wife Tamima Sultana Tammi over allegations of enticing another man’s wife, adultery and defamation.
Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Jashita Islam fixed the date on Wednesday after hearing final arguments from both sides.
Plaintiff’s lawyer Ishrat Hasan sought maximum punishment, while defence counsel Azizur Rahman Dulu pleaded for acquittal. The accused were present in court.
The case was filed on February 24, 2021 by Tamima’s former husband Rakib Hasan, who alleged that she married Nasir on February 14, 2021, while still legally married to him, causing mental distress and reputational harm.
Charges were framed on February 9, 2022, formally opening the trial, while Tamima’s mother was discharged. Revision petitions by both sides were rejected on February 28, 2023, by Judge Murshid Ahmed, allowing proceedings to continue.
The court recorded testimonies of 10 witnesses before concluding hearings, with the verdict now scheduled for June 10.
