VDP member found hanging in Munshiganj

Police recovered the hanging body of a Village Defence Party (VDP) member from Sreenagar upazila in Munshiganj district on Saturday morning.

The deceased was identified as Abdul Jabbar, 27, son of Jalil Chowkidar of Naopara village under Kolapara union in the upazila.

According to locals, Abdul Jabbar had been experiencing marital disputes with his wife since their marriage. His wife had reportedly stayed at her parental home for a long period before returning to her husband’s house after Eid-ul-Fitr. However, family conflicts allegedly continued even after her return.

Family members found Abdul Jabbar hanging from the ceiling fan with his wife’s scarf tied around his neck after waking up in the morning.

Later, he was rescued and taken to Sreenagar Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctors declared him dead.

Sreenagar Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Milton Dutta confirmed the death and said that the body has been sent to Munshiganj General Hospital morgue for an autopsy.

An unnatural death case is being processed in this connection, added the official.
