One held over gang rape of schoolgirl in Rajbari

A young man was arrested at Goalanda upazila of Rajbari, over an alleged gang rape of a 13-year-old student. While one suspect is in custody, the main accused remains at large.

The victim’s family reported that the main accused had established a rapport with the girl on her way to school. 

On Saturday night, the main accused and his friend lured the girl away from her home to a pond-side area of Goalanda town, where they both allegedly raped her.

The incident came to light around midnight when the suspects were spotted by locals while attempting to drop the girl off near her home.

Residents chased the duo, capturing one suspect while the main offender managed to flee. 

Upon receiving the information on Sunday morning, Goalanda Ghat police took the detained youth into custody.

Goalanda Ghat Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Md. Shafiqul Islam confirmed the detention and stated that the victim’s mother is in the process of filing a formal case. 

He added that the police are conducting drives to arrest the fugitive suspect and that legal procedures for the victim are underway.
