The investigation into the suicide provocation case filed against television actor Niamat Ullah Bhuiyan Zaher Alvi, popularly known as Zaher Alvi, and his mother, Nasrin Sultana Sheuly, has been transferred to Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).

DMP Prosecution Division sub-inspector Saiful Islam said on Sunday that DB officially took over the investigation on May 14.

The investigation report was scheduled to be submitted to the court on Sunday, but police failed to file it within the deadline.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Kamal Uddin later fixed June 24 as the new date for submitting the report.

According to the case statement, Alvi’s wife, Ikra, was found hanging from a ceiling fan at their residence in Mirpur on March 1.

She was later taken to Kurmitola General Hospital, where doctors declared her dead.

On the same night, Ikra’s maternal uncle, Sheikh Tanvir Ahmed, filed the case, alleging that prolonged family disputes and abuse had driven her to take her own life.
