Cattle markets will not be allowed to be set up on roads during the upcoming Eid-ul-Adha, said Khulna Deputy Commissioner (DC) Hure Jannat on Sunday.

She made the remarks while chairing the monthly meeting of the Khulna District Development Coordination Committee held at her conference room in Khulna.

The DC instructed upazila nirbahi officers to ensure that vehicular movement to and from cattle markets does not create traffic congestion.

She also directed the health department to maintain adequate stock of anti-rabies and measles vaccines ahead of the Eid season.

Emphasising development works, the deputy commissioner said river re-excavation and canal digging projects must be given priority and progress reports must not be "manipulated".

Deputy Civil Surgeon Dr Md Mizanur Rahman informed the meeting that the target for measles vaccination among children has been achieved and the campaign is still ongoing.

District Livestock Officer Dr Md Shariful Islam said a total of 163,229 sacrificial animals are available in Khulna this year, while the demand stands at 154,456, leaving a surplus of 8,773 animals.

He also said 25 permanent and temporary cattle markets have been set up in the district, with 31 veterinary medical teams ready to provide services.

Officials of the Islamic Foundation informed the meeting that honourariums for imams, muezzins, caretakers, priests and other religious personnel are being disbursed.

The meeting was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Bithan Kumar Mondal and officials from various government departments.
