SSC examinee killed in auto-rickshaw crash; driver held

A tragic accident has claimed the life of an SSC examinee, after he was struck by a speeding auto-rickshaw at Begumganj up;azila of Noakhali district. Rapid Action Battalion (RAB-11) has arrested the driver.

The deceased was identified as Tonmoy Kuri, 16, a student at Chaumuhani Delta Jute Mill High School.

The arrested driver is identified as Md. Najmul, 20, from Nazirpur area. 

According to RAB sources, the incident occurred on May 6 around 11:45 AM. Tonmoy and his classmate, Jit Devnath, were crossing the road in front of the Begumganj Government Technical School and College gate when an unregistered, recklessly driven auto-rickshaw plowed into them.

Locals rushed both critically injured students to Begumganj Upazila Health Complex. As Tonmoy's condition deteriorated, he was referred to a private hospital in Noakhali but succumbed to his injuries on the way.

The victim's father, Kartik Kuri, filed a formal case with the Begumganj Police Station following the incident.

Acting on a tip-off, a team from RAB-11 tracked him down and arrested him on Sunday night near College Gate area under Chandraganj Police Station jurisdiction in Lakshmipur.

Additional Superintendent of Police Md. Muhit Kabir, the Company Commander of RAB-11 (CPC-3, Noakhali), confirmed the arrest and stated that after tracking, apprehending the fugitive driver, RAB handed Najmul over to the Begumganj Police Station for further legal proceedings.
