Two siblings died after drowning in water accumulated pit created by soil and sand excavation in Dinajpur’s Fulbari upazila on Wednesday morning.

The deceased were identified as Sabiha, 4 and Siam, 3, children of Shahin Alam of Khayerbari Bazar area under Khayerbari union.

According to police and local sources, the children were playing beside their house when they accidentally fell into the pond-like deep pit. After remaining missing for some time, another child noticed the incident and informed their family members.

Later, locals and relatives rescued the two children and took them to Fulbari Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor Dr Nure Alam declared them dead.

Fulbari Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Abdul Latif Shah confirmed the incident and said legal action would be taken if any complaint is received.
