20 injured as bus, truck collide head-on in Boalmari

At least 20 people were injured in a head-on collision between a passenger bus and a brick-laden truck on the Majhkandi-Bhatiapara regional highway in Boalmari upazila under Faridpur district on Monday morning.

The accident occurred around 11:30 AM at the Paikhari area under Satoir Union.

According to eyewitnesses and local sources, a Faridpur-bound local bus collided head-on with a brick-laden truck coming from the opposite direction.

The impact caused the bus to overturn into a roadside ditch, while the truck lost control and crashed into an electricity pole adjacent to a power substation gate.

At least 20 people, including the drivers and helpers of both vehicles, sustained injuries. Local residents rescued the victims and sent them to the Boalmari Upazila Health Complex.

No fatalities have been reported so far.

Locals noted that the truck was speeding prior to the collision. The impact damaged three roadside electricity poles, forcing a temporary shutdown of the local power supply.

Boalmari Rural Electricity Zonal Office DGM Utpal Mondal stated that officials inspected the site and confirmed damage to three power poles following the accident.

Boalmari Police Station Sub-Inspector Kobayed Hossain said police quickly arrived at the scene, managed the situation, and cleared the road to restore normal traffic flow with the help of local residents.

He added that both drivers and helpers are currently receiving treatment at the hospital, and legal procedures are underway to seize the damaged vehicles and take further action.
