6 killed in Dinajpur separate incidents

At least six individuals were killed in separate incidents in Dinajpur district within a single day on Saturday.


The incidents are road crashes, drowning and recovery of a hanging body, police said.


According to police and local sources, four of the victims died in road mishaps, one drowned in a pond and another was found hanging.


In the morning, three youths were killed in a road mishap on the Dinajpur-Gobindaganj highway at Raniganj Bazar in Ghoraghat upazila when a truck hit a motorcycle.


The deceased were identified as Alamin, 15, son of Mosharraf Hossain of Nurpur area, Saikat, 16, son of Salimuddin of Maglishpur and Kaiyum, 20, son of Somesh Uddin of Afsarabad area.


Police said the incident occurred when a motorcycle carrying three riders was hit by a speeding truck, leaving one dead on the spot and two others later declared dead at hospital.


In a separate incident, a child named Mursalin Islam, 12, was killed after being run over by a tractor in Deuli Munshipara area under Birganj upazila. Another child, Humaira Akter Hia, 10, was injured in the incident.


Police said they visited the scene and legal action would be taken in this regard.


In another tragic incident, three-year-old child Nirob Chandra Barman died after falling into a pond while trying to catch a balloon in Deoagram West Para under Ghoraghat upazila.


According to police, the child slipped into the water while playing and drowned. No complaint has been filed from the family, they added.


Meanwhile, police recovered the body of a young man named Robin Chandra, 23, from Kalupara area of Ghoraghat upazila in the afternoon.


Ghoraghat Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Shahidul Islam confirmed the incidents and said investigations are underway.
