The deceased was identified as Shahidul Islam, 60, son of late Shahadat Mondal of Baniyapukur village.

The incident occurred around 10:30 AM in a field adjacent to Morka Bazar.

According to locals, Shahidul owned a mill at Morka Bazar and also cultivated nearby farmland. He reportedly came into contact with electricity while trying to start an electric irrigation pump for watering his field, leaving him critically injured.

Later, locals rescued him and rushed him to Gangni Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctors declared him dead.

Gangni Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Uttam Kumar Das said police were sent to the scene after receiving reports of an electrocution death.

“However, no clear signs of electrocution were found at the scene during the preliminary investigation,” he said.

Shahidul's death might also have been caused by a stroke, noting that he had reportedly suffered two strokes in the past, added the OC.

However, police are investigating the incident and taking necessary legal steps, he added.
