6 killed in road mishaps in 5 districts

Six people were killed and eight injured in separate road accidents in Natore, Pirojpur, Bagerhat, Dinajpur and Joypurhat districts in two days.

BARAIGRAM, NATORE: Two brothers, two-month-old Izad and four-year-old Ihan, were killed and their father Engineer Akib Hossain, 35, mother Amy Khatun, 32, and grandmother Kona Begum, 60, were injured in a head-on collision between a truck and a microbus in the Chakpara area of Baraigram Upazila of the district on Thursday afternoon. 

The injured were admitted to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH). 
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Banpara Highway Police Station (PS) Moniruzzaman and Banpara Fire Service Station Officer Jahidul Islam said that they were returning to Dhaka after celebrating Eid at their home in Rajshahi city. On the way, the microbus collided head-on with a mango-laden truck. Izad was killed on the spot and four others were seriously injured. On information, fire service personnel rescued the injured and took them to RMCH, but Ihan died on the way.
OC Moniruzzaman said that preparations are underway to file a case in this incident.

PIROJPUR: A female college student was killed and four others were injured when a passenger bus and a battery-run auto-rickshaw collided head-on in Kalishakhali area of the town on Thursday noon. 

Deceased Maria Akhter, 18, was a student of class eleven at Aftabuddin College and the daughter of Abul Kalam Khan of Baneshwarpur Village under Pirojpur Sadar Upazila. The injured are Hawa Begum 45, wife of Mozammel Mollick of the same village, Lamia, 19, daughter of Abdul Jabbar Hawlader of Kadamtala Union in Pirojpur Sadar, Russell, 30, son of Suhrab Sikder of Jhanjhania Village in Sadar Upazila, and Rian 20. 

After the accident, locals rushed the injured to Pirojpur District Hospital, where doctors on duty declared Maria dead and referred others to Khulna Hospital.  
Sadar PS OC Shariful Islam said that the police are investigating the incident.

BAGERHAT: A Saudi expatriate died after being hit by his own motorcycle while driving recklessly on the road in Chutukhar Bazar area of Sarankhola Upazila of the district on Thursday morning. 

The deceased Md Sujan Molla, 40, was the son of Hanif Molla of Uttar Rajapur area in the upazila. 
Locals said that Sujan returned to the country three months ago and started a tree business. He was returning home by a Nosimon on Thursday morning after selling trees. On the way, he fell from the vehicle and was seriously injured. Later, he died on the way to the hospital. 

Sarankhola PS OC Shaminul Haque said that further legal proceedings are underway.

NAWABGANJ, DINAJPUR: A school student was killed and his sister seriously injured after being hit by a truck on the Gobindaganj-Dinajpur highway in front of Chowdhury Filling Station in Bhaduria Bazar of Nawabganj Upazila of the district on Thursday morning. 

The deceased Alamin, 10, was a class five student of Bhaduria Government Primary School and the injured Sumona is also a student of the same school. Both are the children of Shamim of Bhaduria Village of the upazila.

Locals and police said that after a speeding truck crushed Alamin on the spot, a fire service team rescued seriously injured Sumona and rushed her to the hospital.

SI of Nawabganj PS Md Sajid Ahmed said that the truck has been seized and the truck driver and helper have been taken into police custody.

JOYPURHAT: A deed writer who was seriously injured in a road accident at the T&T intersection area of the town on Wednesday morning died while undergoing treatment at the Bogura Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital (SZMCH) in the afternoon. 

The deceased Kamal Das, 50, was the son of late Namnogina of the Komargram Dighipara area of Joypurhat Sadar upazila. 

Joypurhat Sadar PS OC Noor Alam Siddiqui said that Kamal Das fell in a roadside drain from an auto-rickshaw and sustained serious head injuries after a speeding motorcycle hit the rickshaw hard. He was first admitted to Joypurhat General Hospital and later died at SZMCH in the afternoon.
