Mock drill on flood preparation held in Gaibandha

GAIBANDHA, July 8: A mock drill on taking advance preparation in facing flood was held at Kanchipara area under Fulchhari Upazila of the district on Tuesday. 

Gana Unnayan Kendra (GUK), a Gaibandha-based non-government development organisation arranged the function in cooperation with World Food Programme (WFP). 

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Muhammad Masudur Rahman Mollah was the chief guest at the event. Upazila Nirbahi Officer Mostafizur Rahman and District Relief and Rehabilitation Officer Md Shafiqul Islam spoke at the function as the special guests while Executive Chief of GUK M Abdus Salam chaired the ceremony.  

Speaking on the occasion, DC Muhammad Masudur Rahman Mollah said due to the geographical location, seasonal floods happen in many areas of the upazila every year. If the people of flood-prone areas are made aware about advanced preparation in facing flood, the amount of losses and sorrows caused by flood would reduce, he added.
