World Environment Day 2026 Observed In Districts

Raising awareness about environmental protection stressed

The World Environment Day-2026 was observed in the country as elsewhere in the globe on Friday with a call to raise much awareness among the people about environment and to keep it well, side by side with protecting the environment and mitigating the adverse impacts of climate change.

This year's theme of the day was "Inspired by Nature. For Climate, For Our Future".

GAIBANDHA: Marking the day, Gana Unnayan Kendra (GUK), a non-government development organization, chalked out elaborate programmes in association with the district administration.
 
In the morning, an inaugural ceremony was also held on the premises of Gunbhari High School under Fulchhari Upazila of the district. Deputy Commissioner (DC) Masudur Rahman Mollah attended the function and addressed it as the chief guest. 

ADC AKM Hedayetul Islam, Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Ashraful Kabir, District Relief and Rehabilitation Officer Md Shafiqul Islam and executive chief of GUK M Abdus Salam addressed the function, among others. 

The speakers in their speeches underscored the need for protecting the environment from all sorts of degradation. 

Executive chief of GUK M Abdus Salam said a total of 3 lakh saplings of different trees would be planted at the initiative of the organisation to maintain the ecological balance of the environment. In this connection, he also emphasised the need for building social movement on tree plantation to attain the cherished goals. 

DC Masudur Rahman Mollah underscored the need for planting saplings of wood, medicinal and fruits bearing trees on open space, road sides and surroundings of the houses to build a beautiful environment and enhance the beauty of the nature in the days to come. 

At last, the saplings of different trees were distributed to the mass people of the upazila as part of 3 lakh saplings distribution.

BIROL, DINAJPUR: On this occasion, a rally and a discussion meeting were held. On Friday morning, after the rally, Birol UNO Md Rezaul Islam addressed the discussion meeting as the chief guest chaired by Azahar Ali, president of the Birol Upazila Landless Coordination Council, at the Upazila Parishad. The programme was moderated by Md Kamruzzaman, regional coordinator of the CDA.
 
After the discussion, the chief guest distributed free saplings among the landless people, organised by the Birol Upazila Landless Coordination Council, in collaboration with the CDA.

SINGRA, NATORE: A discussion meeting was held and a month-long tree plantation organised by Chalan Beel Biodiversity Conservation Committee began in the Chalan Beel Gate area by planting fifty fruit, forest and medicinal trees on the occasion of World Environment Day. 

Singra UNO Abdullah Al Rifat was the chief guest at the programme and President of the organisation Professor Akhtaruzzaman was in the chair. Also present were Upazila BNP Member Secretary Professor Sharful Islam Bulbul, former chairman of the Kalam Union Ibrahim Khalil Fatik, General Secretary (GS) of the organisation journalist Saiful Islam, Organising Secretary Assistant Professor Harun-or-Rashid, Lecturer of Chalan Beel Women's College Sharful Islam Mannan, Lecturer of Nazirpur Degree College Nahmudul Haque, Head Teacher of Singra Model Government Primary School Saidur Rahman, Upazila Corruption Prevention Committee Member Abu Bakar Siddique, and journalists and environmentalists MA Karim, Ripon Hossain, Rokonuzzaman Tushar and Swadhin Ahmed.

GS of the organisation Saiful Islam said, "We have been working to protect the environment and biodiversity of Chalan Beel for more than a decade. Out of love for nature and wildlife, we will observe a month-long biodiversity conservation and tree plantation programme in Chalan Beel."
