14 killed in road mishaps in nine districts

Fourteen people were killed and 27 injured in separate road accidents in nine districts in two days.

NAWABGANJ, DINAJPUR: A motorcyclist was killed in a head-on collision between a truck and a motorcycle on the Dinajpur-Gobindaganj highway in Nawabganj Upazila of the district on Saturday morning. 

The deceased Rubel Mia, 30, was the son of Abdur Rashid of Tengraganj Talnagar Sardarpara Village in Mohammadpur Union of Parbatipur Upazila of the district and was working in a private pharmaceutical company.

Police said that when the front wheel of a Dinajpur-bound truck suddenly broke, the driver lost control and hit the motorcycle, leaving Rubel dead on the spot.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Nawabganj Police Station (PS) Abdul Quddus said that the truck has been seized but the truck driver and helper fled immediately. Legal action is underway in this incident.

RAJARHAT, KURIGRAM: A youth and his father were killed in a head-on collision between a fish-carrying pickup and a motorcycle on the Rajarhat-Teesta highway in the Kasaitari Shimlartal area of Rajarhat Upazila of the district on Saturday morning.

The deceased were Dulu Mia, 28, and his father Siddique Sheikh of Bogmari Panchagram area on the Kurigram-Lalmonirhat border.
 
According to local sources, two motorcyclists were injured following the accident. After being admitted to Kurigram General Hospital, the doctor on duty declared Dulu Mia dead. His father was first admitted to Rajarhat Upazila Health Complex and later sent to Rangpur Medical College Hospital for better treatment where he died under treatment. 

Rajarhat PS OC Mamunur Rashid said that the cause of the accident is being investigated and the process of taking necessary legal action is underway.

SONARGAON, NARAYANGANJ: A covered van driver was killed and his helper injured as the van carrying soya bean oil lost control and fell into a roadside ditch on the Dhaka-Chattogram highway in the Naya Gaon area of Pirojpur Union in Sonargaon Upazila of the district on Saturday morning. 
The deceased Bablu Mia, 50, was the son of late Sanowar Hossain of Ramkrishnabari area in Dhanbari Upazila of Tangail District.
According to police and local sources, one of the tires of a Dhaka-bound covered van suddenly burst in the said area. The driver lost control and the van hit a Rural Electricity pole beside the road, leaving Bablu Mia dead on the spot and his helper seriously injured. Locals admitted the injured to the hospital.
SREEMANGAL, MOULVIBAZAR: A pickup van driver was killed in a head-on collision between a passenger bus and a van on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway in Satgaon Chowmuhana area of Sreemangal Upazila of the district on Saturday morning.
The deceased Lokman Mia, 20, was a resident of Lalbagh area in Sreemangal.
Quoting locals, duty man of Sreemangal Fire Service Station Mehedi Hasan said, upon receiving the information, fire service personnel rescued the van driver and were taking him to Sreemangal Upazila Health Complex but he died on the way.
The duty doctor of Sreemangal Upazila Health Complex, Dr Nishat Nawab Mumu said, he died before reaching the hospital.
Highway PS OC Mamun Ahmed and Sreemangal PS OC Ruhul Amin Talukder confirmed the matter.
AMTALI, BARGUNA: Two motorcyclists were killed when a passenger bus hit them on the Dhaka-Kuakata regional highway in the Sakharia bus stand area of Amtali Upazila of the district on Friday night. 
The deceased were Md Sajeeb, 25, son of Madhu Hawlader of Lalua Village in Kalapara Upazila, and his brother-in-law Saiful Islam, 16. Saiful's younger brother Asadul Islam, 14, who was injured in the incident, has been admitted to Patuakhali Medical College Hospital.
Police and local sources said that a passenger bus named Samrat Paribahan from Kuakata hit Sajeeb Hawlader's motorcycle, leaving Sajeeb dead on the spot and Saiful and Asadul injured. They were rushed to the hospital in critical condition, where Saiful died during treatment.
Amtali PS OC Abu Shahadat Mohammad Hasnain Parvez said that the bus driver and his assistant fled immediately after the accident.
BHOLA: A young man was killed in a motorcycle accident in the Janata Bazar area of Kalma Union in Lalmohan Upazila of the district on Friday afternoon.
The deceased, Hasnain, 25, was the son of Md Sona Mia Dalal in Ward No. 7 of the union.
According to local sources, Hasnain lost control over his motorcycle on the slippery road and collided with a roadside tree in the said area and was seriously injured. Locals rescued him and took him to Lalmohan Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor declared him dead.
Lalmohan PS OC Md Oliul Islam said that as there were no complaints, the body was handed over to the family.
SIRAJGANJ: Three people, including a husband and wife, were killed and another woman was injured when a passenger bus hit an auto-van on the Belkuchi-Enayetpur regional road in the Meghulla bus stand area in Belkuchi Upazila of the district on Friday morning.
According to police sources, following the accident, three people in the auto-van - Fazila Khatun, 45, of Azgara Village in Belkuchi, her husband Motaleb Sarkar, 55, and auto-van driver Nuru, 45, of Jamtail area died on the spot, and another passenger name Tamanna Khatun was injured. 
Fire Service and Civil Defense Station Officer of Belkuchi Station Shahidur Rahman said that the injured has been admitted to Belkuchi Upazila Health Complex. 
Belkuchi PS OC Imam Zafar confirmed the incident.
MADHUPUR, TANGAIL: A man was killed in a road accident in Dhanbari Upazila of the district on Friday morning. 
Dhanbari PS OC Nurus Salam Siddique said that a person named Khademul Islam, 55, son of Azgar Ali of Rupshanti Paschimpara Village in Dhanbari Municipality, was killed on the spot after being hit by a Dhaka-bound Sonia Paribahan bus from Jamalpur while he was crossing the Dhaka-Tangail-Joydebpur-Jamalpur highway. On information, the police seized the bus but the bus driver and helper fled immediately after the incident. The body is at the Dhanbari Upazila Health Complex.
GOPALGANJ: Two people were killed and at least 25 others injured in a collision between two passenger buses on the Dhaka-Barishal highway in the Ragdi area of Muksudpur Upazila of the district early Friday.
Police said that following the accident, several passengers of both buses were injured. The police, fire service members and locals rescued the injured and admitted them to various hospitals including Rajoir Upazila Health Complex. Two of the injured died on the way to Dhaka.
The deceased were Amitabh Hawlader, 42, son of Amalendu Hawlader of Amirabad Village in Kalapara Upazila of Patuakhali District, and Kalam, 30, son of Abdus Samad of Sherpur District.
Another injured person was sent to Barishal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment. 
Bhanga Highway PS SI Md Sohel Khan said that the bodies were being handed over to the relatives after completing the legal process.
