767 SAEs of PWD transferred through lottery 

Once for the first time the Ministry of Housing and Public Works has introduced a new benchmark for transparency and impartiality in government personnel management through transferring 767 Sub-Assistant Engineers (SAEs) of the Public Works Department (PWD) in a lottery-based system.

The initiative aims to strengthen transparency, accountability, and efficiency in implementing government development projects while ensuring a fair and modern approach to human resource management. Officials described the lottery-based posting system as a significant reform in transfer and placement procedures within agencies under the ministry, according to a press release.

The lottery was conducted on Thursday at the conference room of the PWD headquarters in Segunbagicha in the capital, where the workplace locations and departmental assignments of 767 Civil Sub-Assistant Engineers across the country’s eight administrative divisions were determined. Ministry’s Additional Secretary Md. Sarowar Alam supervised and coordinated the process.

According to the lottery results, 317 engineers were posted to offices in Dhaka Division, 73 to Rajshahi, 133 to Chattogram, 74 to Khulna, 44 to Barishal, 33 to Sylhet, 29 to Mymensingh, and 64 to Rangpur Divison. The engineers have been assigned to various branches under the PWD Headquarters, divisional offices, and district-level Executive Engineer offices.

PWD Chief Engineer Md. Khalekuzzaman Chowdhury, Joint Secretaries Mohammad Mizanur Rahman and Fouzia Khan, Deputy Secretaries Khan Md. Nazmus Shoaib and Md. Abu Naser, Additional Chief Engineers Md. Abul Khair, Ashraful Haque, and Md. Alamgir Khan, Supervising Engineer Sarwar Jahan, other PWD engineers, and members of the media attended the event.
