3 more die of dengue,  467 hospitalised

Bangladesh has recorded three more deaths and 467 hospitalisations from dengue fever over the past 24 hours. The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) has recorded 35 deaths from the fever in July, raising this year’s death toll to 53.

According to the DGHS bulletin issued on Thursday, 467 patients were admitted to hospitals across the country with the Aedes mosquito-borne disease in the 24 hours to 8am Thursday.

Among them, 62 were admitted to hospitals under the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC), 57 under the Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC), and 70 elsewhere in the capital.

Outside the capital, Chattogram Division recorded the highest number of new hospitalisations with 69, followed by 67 in Barishal, 66 in Khulna, 32 in Rajshahi, 21 in Mymensingh, 20 in Rangpur, and three in Sylhet.

During the same period, 483 patients recovered and were discharged from hospitals.

Since Jan 1, a total of 15,157 dengue patients have been hospitalised across the country, while 13,935 have recovered and been discharged.

The DGHS has maintained records of dengue hospitalisations and deaths since 2000. Bangladesh recorded its deadliest outbreak in 2023, when 321,179 people were hospitalised and 1,705 died. �"bdnews24
