The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has extended humanitarian assistance to flood-affected families in the border areas of Teknaf, Cox’s Bazar, as heavy rainfall and flooding continue to impact the district. Relief items were distributed among 200 affected families on Sunday.

The relief distribution took place at Konapara village under the Hoikong Border Outpost (BOP) of Ukhiya Battalion (64 BGB). The programme was organized under the overall supervision of the Ukhiya Battalion.

BGB Ramu Sector Commander Colonel Md. Mohiuddin Ahmed attended the event as the chief guest and handed over relief supplies to the flood victims.

Speaking at the programme, Colonel Mohiuddin Ahmed said many families living in the border areas had been severely affected by the recent floods. He said BGB distributed relief among 200 families as part of its humanitarian response, adding that standing beside people during times of crisis is as important as safeguarding the country's borders.

"The people living along the border have always placed their trust in BGB and cooperated with us in various ways. Supporting them in their time of need is our humanitarian responsibility," he said.

The sector commander also announced that BGB would continue providing humanitarian assistance to flood-hit communities. He added that flood-affected upazilas across Cox’s Bazar would be identified and relief would be distributed in phases.

Many families in the border region are facing hardship after floodwaters damaged homes and disrupted daily life. The relief assistance is expected to provide immediate support to affected households.

Among those present at the programme were Lieutenant Colonel Md. Zahirul Islam, Commanding Officer of Ukhiya Battalion (64 BGB); Major Ishtiaq Ahmed, Deputy Commanding Officer; Assistant Director Md. Masud Rana, Acting Quartermaster; local community leaders, residents and journalists.

According to BGB, the Ukhiya Battalion under the Cox’s Bazar Region's Ramu Sector not only performs border security duties along the Bangladesh-Myanmar frontier but also carries out various social and humanitarian activities in border communities. The force said it would continue its efforts to stand beside vulnerable people during disasters and emergencies.
