A Dhaka court on Monday ordered former reserved-seat lawmaker Sabina Akter Tuhin and Kafrul Thana Women’s League President Rokeya Jamal to be shown arrested in two separate cases linked to the July movement.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Ariful Islam passed these orders after hearing separate applications filed by the investigating officers.
Sabina Akter Tuhin was shown arrested in an attempted murder case filed with Mirpur Model Police Station.
According to the prosecution, complainant Milon Panna sustained bullet injuries to his left arm and hip during clashes in front of Ideal School and College in Mirpur-14 on August 4. The case was filed against former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and 400-500 unidentified individuals.
In separate order, the court allowed police to show Rokeya Jamal arrested in a murder case over the death of Md. Shakil, who was allegedly shot during the anti-discrimination student movement in Mirpur-10 and later died while undergoing treatment. The victim’s father filed the case against 300 unidentified persons.
Public Prosecutor Shamsuddoha Sumon represented the state, while defence counsel Morshed Hossain Shaheen opposed the applications and sought bail for both accused. The court, however, granted the police petitions, saying the arrests were necessary for the ongoing investigations.
