The budget for FY2026-27 has been welcomed as a timely, realistic, and people-oriented plan that reflects the country’s current economic realities and development priorities.
Former central leader of Bangladesh Hefazat-e-Islam and one of the key organizers of Shapla Chattar movement, Maulana M.A. Karim Ibn Musabbir, observed this in a statement on Wednesday, July 1, 2026.
Karim said the budget avoids unrealistic ambitions, and instead focuses on balanced economic management amid global challenges.
He said the government’s emphasis on development, social safety nets, education, healthcare, agriculture, employment, and infrastructure would help accelerate Bangladesh's progress.
In the statement, he also welcomed the decision to increase taxes and prices on tobacco, alcohol, and other harmful products, describing it as a significant step toward protecting public health.
According to the statement, higher prices would discourage consumption, particularly among young people, reducing addiction, crime, and social degradation while promoting a healthier and more ethical society.
Karim expressed optimism regarding the implementation of the budget, saying the announced programmes would strengthen the economy, boost investment and employment, and improve living standards.
He concluded by congratulating the finance adviser, policymakers, and the government for preparing what he described as a pragmatic and welfare-oriented budget.
