Villagers’ clash kills youth at Bhanga

BHANGA, FARIDPUR, July 1: A young man was killed and at least 20 people were injured in a clash between residents of Purba Hasamdia and Kapuria Sadardi villages over a road for transportation to a school in Bhanga Upazila of the district on Tuesday evening.

The deceased Sumon Sheikh, 21, was the son of Milon Sheikh of Kapuria Sadardi Village and a restaurant worker. The deceased’s elder brother Jihad Sheikh confirmed his death around 11 pm.

Local sources said, during the clash, shots were fired from a shotgun at Sumon, and a bullet pierced his neck. He was first taken to a local hospital but as his condition deteriorated, he was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where he died at around 9:30 pm.

Officer-in-Charge of Bhanga Police Station Mizanur Rahman said legal action will be taken in the case of the deceased.
