KHULNA, July 1: Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP) on Tuesday afternoon held a views-exchange meeting with leaders of the Khulna Metropolitan Puja Udjapan Parishad in the KMP Headquarters conference room with KMP Commissioner Mohammad Zahidul Hasan in the chair to ensure peaceful, orderly and hassle-free observance of the upcoming Rath Yatra festival of Lord Jagannath.
Addressing the meeting, the police commissioner said people of all faiths are equal stakeholders in the Khulna city and members of the Hindu community, along with all religious and social organisations, are important stakeholders of KMP.
He said KMP remains committed to ensuring the highest level of security during all religious and cultural events and would continue to play a responsible role in maintaining peace and ensuring the safety of all citizens.
The commissioner also expressed optimism that mutual cooperation between law enforcement agencies and community representatives would further strengthen communal harmony and public security.
Among others, Additional Police Commissioner Muhammad Shahnewaz Khaled, Additional Police Commissioner M M Shakiluzzaman, newly promoted Additional Inspector General of Police (Additional DIG) and Additional Police Commissioner Shafiqul Islam, Deputy Police Commissioner Mohammad Anwar Hossain, Special Superintendent of Police Sudarshan Kumar Roy and Deputy Police Commissioner Md Rezaur Rahman attended the meeting.
Representatives of the Khulna Metropolitan Puja Udjapan Parishad, including Chief Adviser Gopi Kishan, General Secretary Prashanta Kumar Kundu, Vice-President Professor Tarak Chandra Dhali and Khulna Sadar Thana Puja Udjapan Parishad President Bikash Kumar Saha, were also present.
