A madrasa teacher has been accused of severely beating a nine-year-old student in Munshiganj’s Srinagar upazila, with the child’s family alleging the assault caused a spinal fracture.
The victim, Ankhi Akhter, a second-grade student at Noorania Hafezia Madrasa in the Baghe area of Baratara union, was allegedly beaten with a stick on July 24 for failing to recite her lessons, according to a written complaint filed with Srinagar Police Station on Saturday.
The family claimed the child did not initially disclose the incident after being threatened by the teacher. She later informed her family after experiencing severe pain and was taken to hospital, where doctors reportedly found a spinal injury.
The girl’s father alleged that he informed the madrasa authorities, but no action was taken, prompting the family to file a complaint with police.
Officer-in-Charge Jewel Mia of Srinagar Police Station said police had received the complaint and launched an investigation. He said legal action would be taken based on the findings.
